Santo Christo de Costello, wrecked 1667, also known as 'The Mullion Pin Wreck' Copper ingot fragments. Two fragments of a larger copper ingot, the largest fragment 41cm x 23cm. (2) On 7th October 1667 the Santo Christo de Castello, a Genoese merchant vessel sailing from Amsterdam with a general cargo, was driven by gales into Mount's Bay, then forced ashore near the port of Mullion, where it became a total loss, drowning 25 of her 120 crew. The SHC collection is the only known assemblage of artefacts from this wreck, which is historically significant for the unusual luxury goods recovered (such as the ‘tobacco boy’ statuette and three model cannon from gun dials) and rare examples of early Dutch ordnance (lead and wire link shot). The fragment of the ship’s bell with the date is an important piece of dating evidence that matches the historical documentation.
