A rosewood 50cm Model of a sailing canoe with letter from National Martime Museum confirming it is possibly by same maker of one in the museum

Museum Information
Description Full hull model of a two-masted lug-rigged sailing canoe from about circa 1890, built at a scale of 1:24. The hull is built carvel fashion edge to edge planking, with decking surrounding the cockpit. It was steered using ropes to a yoke on the rudder (missing) as the mizzenmast prevented the use of a tiller. The exploits of John ‘Rob Roy’ MacGregor and his canoe journeys on the rivers of Europe and the Middle East started the fashion for going afloat in small craft, especially canoes. By the 1890s, larger sailing canoes were designed with more space for equipment, which allowed longer voyages along rivers and coastlines. The Museum’s boat collection has an original clinker Rob Roy canoe dating from 1869 (BAE0114), which is currently on display at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Falmouth, as well as a larger sailing canoe (see BAE0040), fitted with the radix folding centreboard.n the bow. The Museum has a full size example of this craft (see BAE 0101) in the collection and it is currently on display at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth.
Date made circa 1890
