Graham Sutherland was commissioned to paint a full length portrait of Prime Minister Winston Churchill for a fee of 1000 guineas, this portrait was destroyed by his wife Clementine. This sketch by Graham Sutherland was acquired by the present owner from John Windsor an arts correspondent with The Observer and The Guardian. By repute John Windsor acquired the sketch directly from Graham Sutherland.
