A COLLECTION OF 19TH CENTURY TRADITIONAL JAPANESE ARMOUR.
The body armour with chest and back guard of nine rows of wavy edged red lacquered on green fabric suspension, the lower body with six sections of five further horizontal rows of matching armour, the interiro finished in black, with two sleeves and shoulder plates, the shoulders with four horizontal elements, the lower fringed in hair, the arms with square and triangular panels mounted on a fabric backing, with longer rectangular elements to the forearm, with naturalistic hand guards. Two Kabuto (helmets) of sectional domed construction, one with 32 plates with a decorative engraved centre, with lacquered scrolled 'ears' with remains of lacquer decoration, with a five tier neck guard, the interior with original red lacquer and woven fabric lining, the other with 16 plates, with lacquered scrolled 'ears' and mount for plume, the interior with fabric lining and sections of original red lacquer, with a detached five tier neck guard on green fabric suspension, a Mempo (face Guard) of hoate type covering the nose, cheeks and chin, the nose piece separate with hair moustache an wide open mouth with upper and lower teeth, and pierced hole below the chin, hooks to the cheeks for fastening and four row throat guard of gilt metal with green fabric suspension, 17cm wide. A fabric Hai-Date or thigh protector , the upper part of coarse woven fabric, the lower part with detached lacquered panels to either side, each with 28 rectangular panels connected with looped chains,
