Gabriel Spatter was born in Chisinav, Russia. After World War I, he lived in Paris and fled to the United States in 1942. In interwar Paris, he became known as a painter and sculptor. Spatter created many French paintings of small oil paintings and watercolour figures, mostly depicting scenes of leisure life in places such as racetracks, parks and beaches. After leaving France, the artist continued to paint scenes from Paris, using the loose brushstrokes and vibrant colours of the "Impressionists". His paintings are occasionally exposed in the American market. In this work, the painter's brushstrokes are relaxed and bold, simple and deep, but each stroke seems to be a true portrayal of life at that time. He uses impressionist-like relaxed brushstrokes to depict the suffering people of that period, but the depiction of the characters in his works is still calm and emotional. On the basis of a cold colour, the characters are still illuminated by the warm sunlight. This is not just a simple record of the current moment, but also shows a yearning for beauty in every stroke. This artwork is from a private collection in Hong Kong and will be shipped from there if successfully bid on.
