C.G.H. - EARLY BRITISH OCCUPATION COVER WITH HORSESHOE RARE "FALMOUTH/SHIP LRE" MARK; Fine 4 Jan. 1796 EL (contents separated from address wrapper for display) from RM Major "Geo. F. Wingrove" on board "[H.M.S.] America, Table Bay, C.G.H." (one of the British ships that took part in the successful capture of Dutch Cape Colony on 15 Sept. 1795) to London with a very fine rare horseshoe "FALMOUTH/SHIP/LRE" on the front, with good contents; "...this goes by a Danish ship homeward...from Trincobar we learn that Adml. Reynier, assisted by the E.I.C. Forces had taken all the Dutch Settlements in the East except Batavia & Colombo...". One of the first recorded letters to G.B. after the British Occupation of the Cape. Exhibition Quality.
