AN APPROXIMATE 60 BORE BOXLOCK POCKET PISTOL FITTED WITH A 2'' QUEEN ANN CANNON TURN OFF BARRELL converted from flint to percussion marked T.Richards, its walnut grip has silver wire inlay and terminates with a silver butt cap bearing a grotesque face, the barrel and trigger guard bear a worn brown patina, the grip has a piece of wood missing where it joins the action and the action fails to cock correctly, the barrel bears the makers initials CR and the private proof marks P and V, these indicate the pistols was proved at one of Birmingham's private proof houses before 1813, when its official proof house opened, by 1770 cannon barrel pistols were out of fashion but it cannot be dated accurately since there were two Birmingham pistols makers with the surname Richards and the same initial, both of whom made silver gun furniture
