A 19th century Japanese Shibayama hardwood stick stand with brass liner, profusely carved and reticulated with a gilt snake meandering through the stylised lotus pond design, inset with bone embellishments and a small carved bone frog at the top, fixed to a lacquered and gilded stand on five scroll legs and circular open base, Meiji period (1868-1912) 60 cm high

constructed from several carved components pinned together, some are a little loose, many pieces missing, splits in the wood, small and large losses overall, gilding worn, some leaves have moved from original positions, re stuck/re-glued areas, foam adhesive visible inside base, no signature/makers marks
