AMMONITE FOSSILS FROM WHITBY, YORKSHIRE

A pair of ammonite fossils from Whitby, Yorkshire. Dactylioceras and Hildoceras (named in 1876 by Alpehus Hyatt after Saint Hilda). These ammonites were referred to as Snakestones as in Whitby folklore they believed them to be the petrified remains of snakes. Jurassic - 180 million years old.
