A selection of moonstone jewellery comprised of a cylindrical bead necklace with a matching pair of drop earrings, two bracelets with a matching pair of drop earrings, a pair of drop earrings and a pendant both set with marcasite, two matching pendants and a pair of 'bunch of grapes' drop earrings.

We are pleased to be offering this lot from the stock of family run firm Shipton and Co., who were based in Hastings White Rock area, and who were unfortunately forced to close their doors in 2014 after a section of the rock face above collapsed onto their shop, making the building unsafe.  Celebrated as a feminine stone and believed to promote spiritual healing, mental clarity and feminine energy, moonstone has long been a favourite within the jewellery trade and crystal healers.  It's translucent, pearly, opalescent look comes in colours of white and grey, but also orange, green, blue, pink, brown and rainbow.  The Moonstone has a long history in India being used by seers to look in to the future and as a tool used to bring wisdom.  The Romans believed that those who looked into the stone could see the Diana, goddess of the moon, and that this pearly talisman would bring love and fortune to the wearer.  During the late 19th and early 20th century when the Art Nouveau period was at it's height moonstone was a preferred stone by jewellers, and remains highly popular to this day.
