ENV.: 1939 unfranked registered env. addressed to Sir Cecil Harcourt-Smith (Surveyor of the King's Works of Art) with "R" etiquette, v. fine purple oval "REGISTERED/ 11 MAY 39/BUCKINGHAM PALACE" ds's on front & two on back, partial red "PAID" London cds, and v. fine purple double circle "[crown]/G VI R" cypher adjacent to ms initials "MR" of Queen Mary. Also corresponding note "FROM QUEEN MARY, MARLBOROUGH HOUSE, S.W.1". Uncommon exhibition quality item.
