A matched pair of Japanese bronze circular chargers, Meiji Period, late 19th century, decorated with shakudo, hirazogan and takazogan scenes, including a pair of wading cranes below a flowering peony with coral-coloured and blackened silver details, its companion charger decorated with fisher folk in a river landscape in the lee of mount Fuji, bearing an indistinct incised three-character mark in Kanji to the bases 30.5 cm diameter It is possible that the surface of the chargers have been cleaned back at some point given a clean that there appears to be a shadow around some of the inlaid elements where the old darker brown patination remains.
