The grandfather of this vendor worked for a company based in Bristol who at the time supplied various manufacturers with cigarette card proofs, featuring designs and hand painted renderings of future sets. The collection contains a selection of proofs that were printed onto card. These are Hignett Bros. & Co. 1926 Historical London set of 25 on 4 cards, Lambert & Butler's 1929 Hints & Tips for Motorists set of 25 on 2 cards with one stamped 'ARTIST DEPARTMENT 10 NOV.1928', Player's 1930 A Nature Calendar part set of 12 (No.1 and 2 from July to December) on card stamped 'ARTIST DEPARTMENT 24 OCT.1929', 1935 Kings & Queens of England A part set of 8 on 4 cards with 3 of 4 signed 'Ivy O'Mann' and Henry VII stamped 'ARTIST DEPARTMENT 4 JUN.1935' and Wills 1923 Gardening Hints part set of 26 on 2 cards with 'M.S.&H. STOCK "GARDENING" SET 1.' and 'M.S.&H. "GARDENING".STOCK. SET 2.' respectively. The collection was retrieved by the vendor's grandfather from the Blitz in Bristol in 1941 and the vendor states they could be the only ones in existence. This lot also includes a couple of photocopies of photographs featuring the vendor's grandfather. (L)
