Hendrick Goltzius - Very rare engraving 1589.
This rare original 16th century portrait engraving is by one of the great Dutch Old Master artists, Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617). Printed by G Cornelis 1589.
Executed in impeccable detail, the sitter in this image was Frederick II of Denmark and Norway.
Goltzius was regarded as the leading Dutch engraver of the early Baroque period, and this specific image is the last known portrait he produced before shifting his attention to painting later in life.
