C.S.D. are the initials of Clarence Shepard Day Sr. (1844-1927) and the dates commemorate his 25th wedding anniversary. C.S.D. Sr., was a Governor of the New York Stock Exchange and the father of the author-cartoonist Clarence Day Jr., whose most famous book, the autobiographical American classic 'Life with Father' (1935), gently satirised late Victorian patres familias. It was dramatized in 1939 and had a decade of success on the American stage. In 1947 it was adapted into a film starring William Powell, Irene Dunne and Elizabeth Taylor.
