2 interesting vintage Spode trail plates depicting Sir Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt, one an unglazed parian example the other with glazed and painted border, each approx 26cm in diameter -
Provenance: These plates are from the collection of Lord Francis Newall who in the early 1970's was sent to Buffalo in New York to set up a ceramics museum. There were approximately 12 salesmen recruited in the UK and shipped to USA along with their families and possessions who upon arriving in the US disappeared leaving Lord Newall in charge of the museum. These were likely trial pieces made for sale during that time.
