JAN DE BRAY (1627-1672) A portrait of a young girl
in a blue dress holding a golf club or shepherd's crook, oil on panel, 63cm x 48cm, in a carved giltwood frame
Provenance: The reverse with the seal of James Medlycott of Ven House and thence by descent. In circa 1900 it was in the Dining Room at Ven House and it was withdrawn from the Ven auction in 1929 where it was located in the Oak Room.
Note: The painting was authenticated as a work by Jan de Bray of Harlem around 1980 by Bruyn Kops of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, and Christopher Brown of the National Gallery, London. Previously it had been attributed to Rembrandt Van Rijn.
