A GEORGE IV SILVER TABLE CENTREPIECE
maker SJ?, London 1825, the cut-glass circular bowl raised on a wirework dish with a rim of fruiting vines, all supported by the figure of Ceres holding a laurel wreath in her left hand and supporting a basket of fruit on her head with her right hand, raised on a tri-form base cast with flowers and stiff leaves, terminating in three acanthus cast scroll feet. 40cm high, 48 troy ounces (excl. glass)
The hallmarks are by the figure's right foot. Her toes partly obscure the maker's mark, which is also a little rubbed. The glass bowl is cracked and chipped but serviceable, and it rings true. The silver is in very good condition, and the figure is firmly bolted to the base.
