Star Lot: A large original acrylic on paper painting by the contemporary Irish artist Marie Carroll featuring an impressionistic scene of a ballroom rendered in a loose textured style. Signed bottom right and mounted on matting. Marie Carroll has a strong auction history with works selling well into the high hundreds.

Marie Carroll was born in St. John’s Woods, London. She attended Goldsmith College of Art before spending time in both Paris and Switzerland. Upon her return to London, Carroll began to paint professionally and exhibited and sold through many of London’s galleries. In the 1970s the artist moved to Ireland where she became gripped by the country’s landscapes and cities, in particular Dublin. Carroll prefers an en plein air approach to painting which allows for a spontaneity within her work. The impressionist influences in Carroll’s painting are very much visible her colourful depictions of both the city space and rural seaside scenes. Marie Carroll has exhibited in Ireland, the UK and Switzerland.
