Belgium: Societé du Commerce d'Asie & d'Afrique, 1000 florins share, [1781], #200, handsigned by Guillaume Bolts and Charles de Proli, black printing with manuscript insertions, receipts for four payments of 250 florins below. Bolts was a Dutchman formerly in the employ of the English East India Company in Bengal. Following his departure he was awarded a 10-year charter by the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria for trading with India from the port of Trieste. He enlisted the help of Antwerp financier Charles Proli and the bankers I.C.I. Borrikens and D. Nagel, who also sign the document. Despite the numerous voyages and the trading posts established in India the company was a financial disaster and following some serious disagreements Bolts agreed to hand his charter to the above newly formed company. The assets of the company were seriously overvalued by Bolts so the company suffered badly from lack of cash. Despite several voyages, general conditions were against them and the company suspended payment in 1785. GVF.
