A rare bronze barrelled and bronze framed flintlock boxlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by J & W Richards (Birmingham) c 1800, 30” overall, 2 stage bell mouth barrel 13½” with Tower private proofs, the 8½” spring bayonet released by a catch operating within a long extension from the trigger guard and a second trigger, and with ramrod pipes on the left side with ivory tipped whale bone ramrod; frame engraved with trophy and flags and signed within elliptical panel; with top safety and elegant plain walnut butt with bronze butt plate having foliate engraved tang.
