Medieval seal matrix. Circa 13th century AD. Copper-alloy, 27mm diameter, 9.8g. The face of the seal displays the image of a lion wrestling with a Wyvern, around is the legend +S' ROGER DE MITFORD. 'The seal of Roger of Mitford'. Its most likely this is the personal seal of, Roger II Bertram 2nd Baron of Mitford. Born, April 23, 1187 at Mitford castle, Morpeth, Northumberland. He died, circa 1242.
