A bog oak three-drawer console desk, with fine magnolia wood inlay and vellum lined drawers
This desk was shown at an exhibition of designs by Mr Makepeace and his graduates at Smith’s Gallery, Earlham Street in the 1980s, where it was seen by Margaret Thatcher, who was prime minister at the time. She was so struck by it that she requested it for 10 Downing Street. Mr. Makepeace then made another sequel desk for the original client, making this desk one of only two in existence.
