A Japanese tanto, probably Edo/Meiji 19th century with lashed ray skin tsuka, simple iron tsuba and the blade with subtle cloud-like hamon within a black textured lacquer saya decorated with paulownia leaf Tokugawa mon and fitted with a mixed metal handled kozuka. 50 cm overall length in the saya x 25 cm length of blade.
