An 'Uncle Tom' crystal set, designed by J P Gowland for Jones & Sons Ltd, Grafton China Works, July 1924. Tuning Coil around the hat is missing, though slide rack runs vertically up back of the top hat. The now-absent galena crystal stud replaced with signal diode to interior, four terminal post connections to base, painted decoration in black, facial features in colour, no cracks, fair paint retention - 9in. (23cm) high. The first true novelty radio produced in the UK, it was originally sold for 17s. 6d., with retailers able to purchase a sample for 12s 6d.
