Although the Mini continued to be produced after the Metro's launch, production volumes were reduced as British Leyland and successor combine Rover Group concentrated on the Metro as its key super mini. 1981 was the original Mini's last year in the top ten of Britain's top selling cars, as it came ninth and the Metro was fifth. The arrival of the Metro also saw production of the larger Allegro pruned back before it was finally discontinued in 1982. In 1988, Austin Rover decided to keep the Mini in production for as long as it was viable to do so, putting an end to reports that it would be discontinued by 1991, by which time the original Metro would also be replaced. Mark V, from 1984, all cars had 8.4-inch brake discs and plastic wheel arches (Mini Special arches) but retained the same Mark IV body shell shape.
The Mini City E offered here is described by the vendor to be in good condition. It has been converted into a 35th anniversary replica for his son, retaining the 1000cc engine for insurance purposes. Upgrades include full custom made interior with wood trim, genuine Revolution wheels, new subframe, uprated sports suspension and brakes, and an immobiliser fitted.
