Inert WW1 British No. 2 Hales “Mexican” Rifle Grenade. Semi-relic example missing its steel launch rod. Very faint traces of the Hales stamping on the brass body which reads: ‘Cotton Powder Co. Ltd.’ over ‘Hales Patent London’ over ‘8 m/m’. Originally, just before WW1, Hales grenades were produced as rodded rifle grenades for the Mexican Government. Fitted with 7mm rods these were for use with the Mexican contract Mausers. The company was also producing grenades with 8mm rods for use with Lebel rifles, apparently the original intended use for this example.
