SHOOTING INTEREST - A good quality Coalport presentation jug, painted with a huntsman with a gun and two dogs flushing gamebirds in wooded landscape, gilt inscription 'Darnathorpe Hill, 1st September', the reverse scene with ruined castle beside a river, further dedicated in gold with initials 'JMH' and dated '1835', gilded formal border to the neck, unmarked, 22.5cm high Provenance: Previously, C.R. Pilkington Collection, exhibited at the Coalport Chinaworks Museum. Purchased at Bonhams on 3rd November 2016. Footnote: 'Darnathorpe Hill' could refer to 'Danethorpe' (pronounced 'Darna-thorpe), a small hamlet in Nottinghamshire. The surrounding areas were historically good for partridge and grouse shooting, and shoots are still maintained today.
