A carved beechwood and oak mounted openwork wall relief modelled as an owl descending on harvest mice, by Les Jewell, modern; the bird with wings and talons outstretched; the mice amongst wheat and entwined colt's foot, on the circular backplate; 58cm high, 52cm wide NOTE: Les Jewell worked as an ecclesiastical wood carver for Hebert Read Ltd of Exeter and was employed in the repairs to Exeter Cathedral after the WWII Baedeker bombing. Subsequently he carved the interior of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C, also undertaking conservation work at Windsor Castle.
