Vincenti et Cie, a mid-Victorian French Boulle mantel clock, the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker Vincenti et Cie, the round brass dial having blue Roman numerals to individual enamel plaques and blued-steel fleur-de-lys hands, the shaped red tortoiseshell and brass inlaid Boulle case having a glazed front through which is visible the sunburst pendulum and with applied gilt-brass mounts, height 31cm. Notes: Vincenti started his workshops before 1823 in Montbeliard, France making the blancs roulants (rough movements) for clockmakers to finish and use, but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management. Although Vincenti died in 1834, the business continued, winning a number of awards including the Medaille d'Argent (silver medal) in 1855.
