Attributed to Giuseppe Bison (1762-1844) - 'Grand Canal, Venice', figures in gondolas and other boats on The Grand Canal, inscribed in the artist's name and the title of the work together with his dates on later plaque attached to the frame and also previously inscribed on a partial label verso with name Francesco Mola, 'Venetian Canal Scene' possibly, with Frost & Reed of London & Bristol receipt no. 31509, oil on canvas, 21.5" x 30"; within a Chippendale style gilt gesso and wooden frame

More Information

The painting is in fully restored and re-lined condition, having been conserved probably back in the 1970s or 80s, there is some missing and flaking paint in the sky, in the upper left corner with other areas of general re-touching in places. It retains some impasto and has minor craquelure in small areas. It has also been placed in a 1970s or 80s Chippendale style frame. The work has more than likely been carried out by Frost & Reed of London & Bristol, probably by one of their Bristol based restorers.
