WW1 Military Medal and Bar and BWM to 241374 Pte A. Thurman 5/Leic R. )3996 on BWM, MM good very fine, BWM with contact marks, nearly very fine. Alfred Thurman's MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 14th May 1919 and his Bar on 23rd July 1919. With copied LGs, MIC and casualty roll, he was seriously wounded and admitted to Kitchener Military Hospital in Brighton 26/11/18.
Sold with brother's Victory Medal to 29743 Pte H. Thurman R. War R. very fine. With the book Soldiers of Shepshed Remembered 1914-19 by Fisher which states "One of Alfred's medal winning exploits earned him a recommendation for the Victoria Cross, but his poor conduct record mitigated against the award. Alfred had spent some time in the glasshouse, having gone AWOL on more than one occasion, prompting visits by the Military Police to his home on Spring Lane, and also to his brother Herbert's house."
