A 19th century French boulle mantel clock, the 14 cm dial with silvered chapter ring, the red tortoiseshell and gilt brass case with ormolu mounts, Old Father Time above the dial, cherub surmount, Napoleon oval plaque to the base with Thuret signature above, glazed side panels, the movement signed Ls. Moinett and with Japy Freres stamp, no pendulum or bell, 47cm.
Thuret is listed in Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes as working in Paris circa 1855-1900.
Louis Moinet (1768-1853), worked with the esteemed clockmaker, Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) as his technical secretary and was a highly esteemed horologist, inventor, scholar and as a maker of precision instruments became President of the Chronometry Society in Paris.
