RARE RED "Don. 1/ARM. D'ANGLETERRE" MARK ON COVER FROM GENERAL GRENIER TO ROUEN; 20 April 1798 E (one side-flap removed; modern ink stain at foot just clear of address) endorsed as being from "Le G[ener]al de D[ivisi]on Grenier" [see previous lot] to the local council of Rouen and so without postal rate but having a rare and mainly very fine red "Don. 1/ARM. D'ANGLETERRE" mark nicely placed on the front. The letter concerns 4 recent deserters, giving their details (part content lost at foot). With fine "PRO PATRIA FACTA NON VERBA" (for the country; actions speak louder than words) red wax seal.Cross Reference: FRANCE, MILITARY - NAPOLEONIC WAR
