1797 Bronzed copper restrike pattern halfpenny, George III. Obv. laureate and draped bust with legend in thick "cartwheel" rim, Rev. Seated Britannia with date below, this with first three digits of date notably recut/restruck forming a potential variety from the plate coin in Peck. It is curious to note that no examples have been found sold in recent years and therefore perhaps much rarer than the book suggests. Presented in non-numeric NGC holder, Environmental Damage, a small area to left of olive branch perhaps the reasoning. Regardless a rare piece with sumptuous chocolate toning. aUNC, and from the same source as the farthing also offered in the sale. [Peck 1161, Rare]
