NOTTINGHAM SALT GLAZE IMPERIAL BOTTLE. 3.1ins tall. Small dark brown salt glaze so called imperial bottle with large impressed oval p.m. WM HALL/ LODGE COLLIERY/ BRICKWORKS & POTTERIES/ NR NOTTINGHAM. Some shoulder, lip & base flakes. NB: William Hall was proprietor of the company from 1864-85. As the name suggests they did not specialise in bottles, which may have been a sideline in hard times. Such a disproportionately large stamp was utilised normally on larger wares such as bricks & drainage pipes. A small number of pie inks have been recorded with this mark, this pot appears to be one of possibly three such recorded & was probably for ink or a related product?
