Marti et Cie, Paris, a French slate and marble mantel clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate numbered 3737 and stamped with the trademark of the movement maker Samuel Marti et Cie, the round white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued-steel moon hands set within a gilt-metal cast case of classical form, standing on a rectangular black marble base with variegated green marble panelling and moulding with a gilt-metal cast figure of a scholar/explorer sat to the side, height 44cm.
