A large and showy mother of pearl fan, the wide sticks gilded and brightly painted with flowers, pierced and gilded, the lithographed leaf portraying seven young couples dancing, dressed in costumes representing their countries, the upper guard applied with a mirror, the recto showing Zephyr and Flora, and other mythological scenes, interspaced with winged cherubs, the lower guard fitted with a cameo-style panel with classical figure in profile. Contained in a cream card fan box covered in cream silk. Guard approx. 29cm
The leaf has some restoration to the outer edges. Possible repair to the lower guard just under the cameo. Box is grubby with some loss to the silk.
