A very feminine early 20th century gauze fan in fontange form, the mother of pearl monture dyed cerise and clouté with silver, the leaf painted with a posy of violets and leaves, tied with sequined ribbon, the pink and cream gauze embroidered with minute sequins, backed in cream gauze, overall height approx. 18 cm; together with a cream celluloid brisé fan, the sticks serpentine, the tips shaped and pierced, painted with pink dog roses and leaves, guard approx. 15.5 cm, and another celluloid brisé, painted with a suitor on bended knee proposing to a maiden (3)

More Information

The fontange fan leaf has several small splits to the folds, the rear layer being also damaged. Some loss of colour to the sides of the sticks, seen when closed. The first brisé is slightly warped.
