An interesting 19th century container from a Gunpowder Works, height 17½", maximum diameter 16", of rivetted construction, the body of sheet iron with brass rim top and bottom and heavy tinned or plated brass lid with 4 holes for securing bolts, rubberised canvas washer, embossed "GUNPOWDER WORKS" and stamped with number "16". Basically GC (age wear and verdigris overall, the cylinder wall partly rusted through at the bottom, the lid originally having 3 more lines of inscription, now erased). £30-50
