1981 Bentley Mulsanne, 6750cc. Registration number OAV 604W. VIN number SCBZS00098CHO2245. Engine number 02245.
Sold with the V5C and key, MOT exempt, last in 2019 at 143,657 miles, mileage today 143,657, large history folder, 28 stamps in the service book.
The Bentley Mulsanne was produced from 1980 until 1992, although derivative models such as the Continental T and Azure continued in production into the next century. The name 'Mulsanne' is derived from Bentley's famous history, which included five victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1924 and 1930 - the 'Mulsanne Straight' being the stretch of the Le Mans racecourse where cars reach their highest speeds.
Although, based on the T2 floorpan, the Mulsanne offered considerable improvements in both ride and handling thanks to its new Girling automatic ride height control and gas shock absorbers. By combining copious amounts of sound deadening with the finest quality upholstery, Crewe's engineers kept intrusion from the 6.75 litre V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission to a muted hush (unless the model's reputed 120mph potential was explored). Driver inputs were minimised with power assisted steering and disc brakes. Only in production between 1980 and 1987 (by which time it had gained Bosch fuel injection), just 482 Bentley Mulsanne Saloons are thought to have been made.
OAV, offered in Exeter Blue with cream leather interior has had 12 owners in its life, the first being Peter Martin of Mortimer Street, London. By 2000 it was with Mr E Taylor with four receipts on file for works undertaken around 131,000 to 135,800 miles by Colbrook RR and Bentley specialists. Our vendor bought it from him in 2004, using it sparely, adding only some 8,000 miles in his 20 year custodianship. He has serviced and upkept himself with many receipts on file including a replacement steering rack in 2019. There are MOT's on file from 2000 onwards. At some point it has had a full respray.
