Jutland casualty's 1914-15 Star trio & Memorial Plaque to 6498S A. Warrender Sto R.N.R. (S.6498 on Star, Alexander Warrender on Plaque) extremely fine, plaque possibly varnished? He was killed in action on 31st May 1916 when the battle cruiser HMS Indefatigable was hit by several shells and exploded with the loss of all but 3 of the 1,019 crew. With no known grave, he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. With copied CWGC, Sailor's Died and newspaper article with photo - "Stoker Alex Warrender, who was lost with the Indefatigable, was a son of Mr Robert Warrender, Buckhaven. He was a promising lad of 19 and had joined his ship only a fortnight ago, after recovering from an attack of pneumonia. He joined the service 15 months ago, prior to which he worked as a miner."
