A VERY FINE LATE 18TH CENTURY GEORGE III IRISH LONG CASE CLOCK, circa 1770, topped with an angular broken arch pediment, a band of blind fretwork detail beneath, with a pair of reeded column supports standing either side of the clock face door, which opens to reveal the clock face within, with an applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring, with Arabic five minutes to the outer edge, a smaller seconds ring is found within the chapter ring, clockmaker’s name to the lower edge William Thompson, Clonmel (he was to be found on Dillon St. in 1788), with decorative gilt metal spandrels to the corners, the case of the clock with fine satinwood string inlaid detail, all raised on short bracket feet. Clock in working order., dimensions are 210cm high, 49cm wide, 26 cm deep. Comes with pendulum, weights and key. In good working order.
