An interesting 14 bore brass barrelled flintlock sea service type belt pistol, 16” overall, barrel 9½” with London proofs; now fitted with sea service pattern lock engraved with crowned “GR” and “Tower” and with ordnance inspector’s mark; walnut fullstock with brass mounts comprising dragoon type butt cap and trigger guard and sea service pattern side plate and ramrod pipe, the former with locating hole for belt hook (now absent); the brass tipped ramrod appears to be original. GWO & C (the very small touch hole does not line up with the pan, suggesting that the lock is a possibly contemporary replacement, old repair to stock above lock, the ramrod pipe worn). Probably intended for use on a merchant ship. Plate 5
