* The author was born in Tuam, Co. Galway. He was educated by the Jesuits and went on to be a noted journalist with The Freeman's Journal and later for C.S. Parnell's 'United Ireland,' He became an M.P. & later was appointed to the bench. He married in 1885, Arabella Norman of Dublin. They had four daughters, and two sons, one of whom Thomas Patrick became Director of National Gallery of Ireland. (1)
