A FIRST WORLD WAR MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE MERCANTILE MARINE. A Memorial plaque named to Joseph Edward Powell who died at the age of 16. Born in Liverpool on the 8th August 1901, son of William and Ann Powell of 15 Antony Street, Everton. Working as an assistant steward aboard the steamship Fabian, on the 26th October 1916 whilst on passage from Almeria to Manchester, she was attacked by U20, on this occasion she survived. She was not so lucky on the 20th September when she was torpedoed and sunk by UB50. With a large framed photograph of the recipient, 62 x 52 cm. Powell is commemorated on the Tower Hill memorial. Mounted for display with copied research including a photograph of the deceased.
