BRITISH EDUCATION, THE ALLIANCE FRAN?AISE 'GRAND CONCOURS' medal, gilt silver, awarded 1913, by Daniel Dupuis, teacher with children, reverse: named in tablet, 'Miss M. Savage, Allenswood, Vimbledon [sic] Park', 50mm, edge stamped 1ARGENT, VF & rare. Allenswood Boarding Academy (Allenswood Academy or Allenswood School) was an exclusive girls' Finishing School founded in 1883 in Wimbledon by Marie Souvestre and Paolina Sama?a. The students came from the European aristocracy and the British and American upper-classes. French was the official language spoken at the school. Eleanor Roosevelt was a pupil, leaving in 1902. At the time Miss Savage received her medal Florence Boyce was the head mistress. The school closed in the early 1950's.
