AIR CRASH MAIL - 1936 'ATHENA' CRASH COVER GROUP: Five covers ex UK or Switzerland carried on the Imperial Airways Armstrong Whitworth Atlanta which exploded while refuelling in India. All charred with cachets applied at receiving post offices inc. env. ex UK to Australia franked 2/6d Sea Horse endorsed 'Salvaged from Athena crashed at Delhi 28/9/36' with "Salvaged from Air Iiner [sic]/ATHENA" cachet on back; env. ex UK to Singapore franked 6 x 3d violet with label attached "GENERAL POST OFFICE/Singapore, 2nd October, 1936./This postal article was salvaged from the Imperial Airways/aeroplane "Athena" destroyed by fire at New Delhi on the/29th September, 1936./Any enquiry regarding this article should be addressed to:-/The Superintendent of Mails,/General Post Office,/Singapore."; plus 2 covers to India (one with Ambulance env.) and an env. ex Switzerland with return env. & covering letter.
