James Cook & Son, Birmingham, an oak and mahogany longcase clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the twelve-inch painted arch dial having black Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and signed James Cooke & Son, Birmingham, 1840, the corners painted with various local scenes and titled Ann Hathaway's Cottage, Shakespeare's House, Christ Church Stratford and Memorial Theatre, with decorative gilt-brass hands, the oak case having a swan-neck pediment with brass eagle finial, fluted pillars to the hood with cast-brass capitals, the trunk with mahogany cross-banding, inset diamond panel and fluted quarter-columns, height 218cm.
