A scarce example of the Omani Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) campaign medal, awarded by the Sultan of Oman to a small number of British troops, including two
squadrons of the SAS who, with RAF support, were sent by the British government to assist in the 1958-59 campaign against Omani rebels led by Imam Ghalib al-Hinai.
It is alleged that it was the outstanding performance of the SAS soldiers in this campaign which saved the SAS Regiment from threatened disbandment as part of
government defence cuts following the end of the Malaya Emergency. Medal un-named as issued.
